Power and Landscape

Influenced by the form of Jamison Valley in NSW, Australia my landscape conflicts with conventions of a natural. Glowing trees and artificial tree lamps create a visually charged setting whilst curvaceous structures interfere with the natural mountains, creating man-made caves and hills on top of the natural ones as they cantilever from and dissect the land form.

The offices will be located on floating or cantilevering islands positioned  high above the valley floor to represent hierarchy.

Facebook

'Facebook is a social utility that connects you with the people around you'
The key idea surrounding facebook is connection.

The elevator appears as glowing pixels with a magnified colour intensity to stand out amongst the colourfully lit surrounds. Blue colouring reflects companies branding identity.

The elevator will work that the the character walks on a platform as the pixels wrap around. The lights will flicker and change hue and intensity as the lift travels down along the cliff side in an 'S' movement rather than going down in a straight line. The pixels represent digital media and the concept that a picture is formed by many pixels coming together - connecting.

The office will appear as a pieces of a jigsaw puzzle put together, inspired by tetris and lego.

Coca Cola

Coca Cola - "Open Happiness"
The Coca Cola companies main message infers and associates joy with their products.
The Coca Cola elevator will be an open lift that travels downwards in a fast, rotational manner with the aim of reflecting a ride in a theme park. The Coca Cola offices will be designed as an eccentric theme park or concert hall spanning a large portion of the valley denoting dominance.

Inspiration Landscapes

Jamison Valley, NSW, Australia

Gold Coast, QLD, Australia
- Not necessarily a valley, but 'valley' could be interpreted as a low area between high areas.
- In this environment, you could exaggerate the ratio of water to land and have lots of water and only small islands floating in it then rather than having the bridge actually bridging the environment, it could instead form it; like a man-made landscape.

Take 2 Interactive
Coca Cola
Facebook

A champion is crowned, as leading game developer Take 2 Interactive prevailed in the head-to-head tournament, beating some really stiff competition in its aggressive growth plan aimed at raising its public image and Coca Cola makes an amazing achievement that required great skill and composure in an intense economic transformation. The phenomenal growth of Facebook has shown its staying power and it is poised to join the ranks of tech titans as it endures a tournament atmosphere enhancing its competitiveness in a business with such a high turnover. The site leads globally in revenue, servings and volume. Our belief in these companies is enduring and unshakable as they display skill and poise in combat and such an extraordinary growth potential.

The Landform

The Landform

My landform was inspired by the maze-like landscape of Lao May in Taiwan. Land masses snake across the map with channels or pathways running between them. The undefined circulation route is symbolic of the choices and opportunities which exist within the intertwined fields of architecture, architectural computing and engineering with architecture. Students may indivdual journeys towards the monument which may either connect them with students from other courses, or instead separate them depending on their interests.

The map is dominated by the coastal moss texture with various green and brown tones to create a damp surface appearance. Vegetation is limited to a small number of ground cover grasses and shrubs scattered across the map. This is to direct focus at the contours and topography of the landscape.

The Scheme

The Scheme

The monument interacts with its setting by intersecting with the land masses as it cantilevers from one and sprawls accross a channel to touch another mass on the other side turning the pathway below into a tunnel. Mounds of land are built up around the base portion of the monument.

Individual elements of the architecture are kept in size harmony with the different masses but all together the architecture stands above the land to signify importance.

The design of the monument focuses on the views and perspectives created. The large opening on the top portion frames the view when looked through, the details also on the top portion distort the view by concealing and revealing different aspects. On other levels of the monument are totally open allowing a panoramic view. This changing perspectives allow the monument to interact with the landscape in different ways.

The use of prominantly white textures and white space cause the monument to change colour with the time of day variations. During sunset the monument glows red and pink like the sky. The monument is positioned so that the side faces which are visible from the largest number of angles come in contact with the light from setting sun and glow the most obviously. A green light on the monument is also used to reflect the colouring of the landscape.
